Captains Day - 14th July 2018

Club Captain Tony Lopategui's Captain's Day took place on Saturday 14th July.

Over 180 Golfers took part with a two course shotgun start. The day was a great success with some great golf played in superb weather conditions. In addition to the golf, the Captain was delighted that members of the Freddie Farmer Foundation - including Freddie himself were able to attend during morning registration.

Thanks must go to Ben Riley, Simon, Jo and Ben Price in the office, Simon and Arun and their staff for providing such great food and service both before and after the game.  Amanda Spooner’s efficiency ensured the scoring was completed in record time and Nadia Weaver’s experience in running similar days ensured we survived the registration / raffle ticket sales ‘rush’. Our amazing Assistant Pro’s, John, JD and Sam also did an excellent job on the ‘Beat the Pro’ Challenge.

The overall winner on the day was Mickey O’Rourke playing off six who had a tremendous 42 points – the winner on the East Course was Paddy O’Connor with 39 points and on the West Course Keith Elvin with 38 points – The Ladies prize was won by our current Lady Captain Rose with 40 points and Ladies Runners up was Elaine Lopategui with 36 points.

The Captain would like to thank all those who donated prizes to the raffle and Auction and to all members who ‘dug deep’ and helped to raise a fantastic £8,700 which the Freddie Farmer Foundation will put to very good use.

Finally, the Captain would like to say to the member who kidnapped the Welsh flag on the 15th East resulting in his having to pay a £100 ‘ransom’ to get it back…….” I know who you are…watch you’re back!!” .
