Sundridge Park Golf Club

Hazel Miller Memorial Day

The sunniest and what seemed one of hottest days of the year greeted the players and the Miller family members for the Hazel Miller Memorial Day.

Elaine Lopategui (SPGC Lady Captain) welcomed the guests to the club before the battle commenced on the West course to win the super trophy donated by Marlene and Randolph Miller.

Hazel Miller Memorial Day 2016

The scores were impressive in hot, yet windy conditions.

John Verwey  (Proskauer) took the trophy with an impressive score of 38 points and knowing that John arrived at the club only 10 minutes before tee off was remarkable.

Tita McCart (SPGC) was runner up with 36 points, beating Helen Kennedy (SPGC) (3rd place) on countback, also on 36 points.

Nearest the Pins for men  - winners were Paul Miller and John Verwey

Nearest the Pins for ladies - winners were Maggie Best and Liz Martinez-Gray

Following the golf, the golfers, family members were also joined by friends & colleagues of Hazel Miller who joined us all for the buffet and prize giving. Followed by copious amount of bubbles and Pimms.

Photos were taken, to keep this day and the memory of Hazel well and truly in our thoughts.

The Hazel Miller Memorial day and trophy will be played for every August (at the weekend, date to be finalised) and Sundridge members, friends and family will be invited back to attend/and/or play in the day.

Extra thanks go to:

Liz Martinez-Grey for organising the day in a flawless fashion.

Lisa Heywood, Juli Carpenter and Chris Frost for giving Liz help on ideas and how the day would be best run, it could not have gone any better.

Shela Maine-Wyncoll for doing an F1 impression on the course with the buggy ride, taking Randolph and Marlene Miller out. (Thankfully Randolph had recovered his composure in time for prize giving).

Thanks to Elaine Treadwell for getting the super Olive Tree as a gift for Mr and Mrs Miller

Thanks to Lisa Heywood for the bubbles – most of it was drank that evening!!

Thanks to Julie Rose who took great pictures on the day.

Thanks to Elaine Lopategui for the welcome speech and welcoming all the guests.

Thanks to Stuart Dowsett for the complimentary loan of the buggy for the day.

Thanks to Joyce Brakefield for doing the registration desk and trips in the buggy around the course.

Simon Wood for ensuring the set-up of the day ran smoothly. Do pass on my thanks to Suman and bar team for their help on the day and set up too.

Favourite moments from the day were:

1-Janet Young trying to muscle in on the MENS nearest the Pin on 5th hole….nice try!

2-Looking across to the 16th hole, watching John Verwey (the winner) walk (or more like amble) back to the 16th tee to take 3 off the tee, which sailed over 4 ladies heads! To then find out later he did not score on that hole! Priceless.

3-The buzz of such a great day and how the family members and guests all joined in the chatter following the golf – just how Sundridge Park should be.

4-Sunay Radia being very close to having a very expensive day! His tee shot on the 7th was less then an inch away from the cup.

Details, including the date for 2017 day will follow over the next coming months, once the diary is finalised.
