Sundridge Park Golf Club

The Swedes swarm onto Sundridge Park

Monday 25 July saw the arrival of our Swedish junior friends from Taby Golf Club, north of Stockholm.

We played a friendly stableford competition that afternoon with great scores from Ellis Cameron who had 45 points playing off 5, that's 4 under par gross around the East course, and also 42 points from Charlie Reynolds, sparking a great run of golf for him throughout the week...

Monday saw a visit to Littlestone Golf Club, a good friend of Sundridge. For the Swedes this was the first chance for them to experience links golf. The wind was up and the course was bouncy providing the Swedes with a challenge and they loved it. It was a cracking day which ended with dinner in McDonalds, something that the Swedes also loved. What 13-year-old doesn't love a McDonalds dinner.

Tuesday saw a trip into London for a bit of sightseeing, we went on the London Eye which the Swedes really enjoyed, we saw the changing of the guard at Horse Guards Parade and we also got a good look at Buckingham Palace. For many of the Swedes it was the first time in London and they loved the chance to see and photograph all the iconic sights London has to offer.

Wednesday saw a trip to Tandridge with a 4-way club match with Knole, Tandridge, Sundridge and Taby. The course was in stunning condition and a real treat for all the players involved.

Thursday saw our Jesper Parneivk Trophy match against our Swedes. We played foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon. Foursomes was played over the West course with Sundridge narrowly coming out 3-2 leaders going into the afternoon, thanks in part to a great dormie down comeback from Louie Johnson and Johnny Eades.

As the great week of weather came to an end the singles began. 10 singles matches were to be played and it would take a good performance from Sundridge to hold off the Swedish comeback. Great performances from our players saw Sundridge come out on top 9-6 overall to retain the trophy. Both teams played their hearts out and it could have gone either way.

A fantastic week and we are looking forward to our trip next year to Sweden already.
