Achievements in 2015 of two or our oustanding Male Golfers - Alfie Plant and Liam Burns

 ALFIE PLANT

The outstanding achievements of one of our intermediate members, Alfie Plant are remarkable. In June Alfie made his mark in the 120th British Amateur Championship by setting a new course record 63 - 7 under par at Panmure in the first round. Alfie went on to qualify for the matchplay stage, but unfortunately lost out to Adam Blomme in a closely contested match. Alfie went on to enjoy success in the Brabazon Trophy, finishing tied 18th, and in a moment of great pride, Captained England in the Chiberta Grand Prix and the Biarritz Cup in France where he was second and third respectively. In August, Alfie’s brilliant performance took him to the finals of the English Amateur Championships and had him in sights of a potential Walker Cup spot. Taking on Yorkshire lad Joe Dean, Alfie was pipped in the 36 hole matchplay final.  Following his run of great form, Alfie was selected for England’s team in the Home Internationals at Royal Portrush Golf Club in County Antrim, Ireland.  And in recent weeks news has come through that Alfie has been selected for England men's elite team for 2015-2016, and all things being well will be selected for a trip to Australia or South Africa

 LIAM BURNS

After his long awaited return to amateur golf, Liam Burns took no time in showing his rivals he was back, and that form is temporary.... class is permament.  His first Win came in the Romer Bowl held at Littlestone Golf Club, Liam overcame a close challenge from his County team mates by playing the last five holes, into the fiercest of winds, in 2 under par to take the title.  He continued his winning streak in the Darwin plate held at West Kent, returning scores of 73 and 67; and finished second in both the Kent Cob and Bishops Bowl, held at Knole Park and Wildernesse.  In the Kent Amateur Championships with format reverting to match play following two rounds of stroke play to qualify, Liam’s medal round scores of 68,71 put him 2nd, and through to the KO stages. He made short work of talented opponents, beating Jake Spearpoint 6 & 5 and Tom Jordon 5 & 4 on his way to the Semi’s, where a last hole win against the title holder, Mark Collins, gave him a place in the final.  Putting on a supreme performance against opponent Matt Sheenan, Liam claimed a 2&1 victory, and in doing so added his name to the trophy for a 2nd time. Liam ...... a truly outstanding year, I speak for all that we are proud to see you back with a BANG to represent the Club, and to also pronounce you as winner of the Bill Marriot Trophy and Sundridge Club Champion for 2015
